Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) in dermatology and health care: A guide for health care professionals

A nonfungible token (NFT) represents an arbitrary piece of information, which can be created and exchanged on a blockchain, type public ledger secured by cryptographic algorithms. NFTs offer the possibility leveraging blockchain technology-related benefits, including verifiability, transparent execution, high availability tamper-resistance, for any tokenizable information such as example, clinical images in dermatology. In this narrative review, we explore current potential future applications, well limitations health care. While care applications blockchains have been explored implemented, not yet extensively studied medical literature. Beyond currently envisaged use blood product tracking, consent management extension to electronic records, field especially dermatology could benefit other domains from technology, image safety, charge-sensitive drug tracking managing processes like referrals, lab orders, patient consent, legal claims malpractice, improved reliability scientific data. The technology is limited sensitive nature data, potentially counteracting verifiability benefit, accessibility patients, technical skills required create maintain infrastructure.
